Holidays and stuff

As I'll be in Hungary for the next two weeks, I already wish you recreative Holidays and a Happy New Year!

I'm looking forward to 2013 very much, both in private and in hobby terms. I hope you all will have great new ideas for conversions or paintjobs and the strength to start new projects you always wanted to do.

Read you next year. ;-)

Cultists, we need moar Cultists!

Yes, we do! With their 4 pts. per model and a option to buy a heavy stubber or flamer for only 5 pts., these crazy fanatics are a quite nice element of the new Codex in my eyes.

As I always hoped for some kind of lesser human forces in an upcoming Codex when I started my Iron Warriors, I based my Renegades the same way I did with my Iron Warriors and painted them in a rather matching colour scheme. Now I can use my Renegades for both my Traitor Guard and my Iron Warriors. Hell yeah!

Last Saturday, two club mates and I have been to Ingolstadt on a 200 pts. Kill Team tournament. This is what I played:

10 cultists
+ heavy stubber (specialist [+1 BS])

9 Chaos Space Marines (one of them specialist [+1 T])
+ Plasma gun (specialist [+1 W])
- Champion /w twin-linked boltgun [Leader]

I won three times, had a draw and a loss once each. Overall, that got me the 2nd place in the torunament. I also won a medal for the best specialist conversions.

Here's the enemy's pain in the ass, the heavy stubber with BS 4:

Standard Template Construct: Champions of Chaos Contest

The guys at Standard Template Construct (visit them, it's an awesome blog!) launched an online contest for converted Chaos models (no vehicles except for Walkers, though) and all 17 entries are now online to be judged by the almighty readers. You can view them here:

Champions of Chaos - Judgement

I also compete with my Iron Warriors Daemon Prince and hope to get some votes at least. :)

Each winner of the sections "Best Conversion" and "Best Painted" will receive a 50$ voucher for Secret Weapon Miniatures.

Spread the Word!

I've always been keen on testing the colour scheme of one of my most favourite legions: the Word Bearers

And as I was bored yesterday evening while watching two episodes of Dexter, I painted this little fellow of said legion:

It was a quick paintjob, though, but I think he came out quite well. Maybe (big one!) I'll paint some more Word Bearers or even other single Marines from traitor legions I like.

Daemon Prince "Quorthon"

I painted the remaining details on my Daemon Prince "Quorthon" today.

I dedicated him, as the name indicates, to the most important person for my favourite music genre Metal: Thomas Börje "Quorthon" Forsberg

He was a multi-instrumentalist and the founder and songwriter of the pioneering Swedish black metal band Bathory.

Please excuse all these minor paint bloopers, but as the pics are very large everyone is revealed.

Maulerfiends

Look what I finished yesterday: both Maulerfiends Doombringer & End of Days

Unfortunately, I couldn't manage to shoot some good quality photos yesterday evening without daylight, so I present them to you with one day delay.

Heldrake

I had a very rough and long painting evening and night yesterday, but due to that I can already present you my Heldrake Death Fiend:

Obliterators & Iron Apostle

After a long painting session last night, I can now present you the 3 finished Obliterators. It was quite difficult choosing the colour for their skin, but I think this greyish purple gives them a nicely unhealthy look.

Fields of Death

As I promised, I present you the base of my Heldrake Death Fiend as I just finished decorating it.

It displays two corpses and the vital remains of more Guardsmen, which will likely be painted in the colours of my renegades. War takes its toll, eventually.

Also, I've just rounded out painting the silver parts of my Obliterators. It feels great to paint again!

"Creepy Shadows" and more Chaos

Hey! Just a short update: I built my Heldrake today and as soon as I'm finished with its base I'll show you a photo of it.

So far I can only say: damn, what a kickass model! I will leave the wings unglued until they've got their paint because it would be too difficult painting the fully assembled model. But I'm really looking forward to torturing that f*cker with my brushes and paint. I hope I'll get some good ideas and inspirations for its base until tomorrow.

And for the meantime I present you a DIN A3 picture I painted as a homework for one of my art courses at university. The theme was "Creepy Shadows".

Triumph of Death

Stay tuned!

Back to work!

It's been a long, long time since I last posted something here. Permanent weariness and a huge lack of motivation were responsibly for that fact. Furthermore, I moved from my old, small flat into a new, really big flat I share with two of my pals. They're just as nerdy as I am and one of them even plays 40k.

But with the release of the new Codex Chaos Space Marines and the 6th Edition I'm back in business and keen on throwing Fabrilis's army into the fiercest and most bloody battles so that they will do Perturabo credit.

Some new devices of oppression are already at the 4th Grand Company command:

For Sale: Renegades Shadowsword / Stormsword

Due to minor financial problems and the fact that I'll never play with this model I'm selling my pro-painted Renegades Shadowsword / Stormsword on ebay.com

Here's the link to the auction:

Huge lack of motivation / Another mark of Chaos

Hey guys,

Sorry I haven't posted any updates in the past few weeks, but I've been really unmotivated all the time to do anything hobby related. But at least I got marked a second time by the Dark Gods last Friday. Check it out:

(There are some highlights on the chains and skulls yet to come.)

I hope I can scrape some motivation together when the summer semester begins in 2 weeks.

40k Birthday Present

For a friend's birthday I painted some minis for his Salamanders army. I planned to do 10 marines but the little time that remains until his party won't allow that.

All ruins painted

I painted the last 2 ruins today, here some pics:

And here some new pics of the first three ruins:

IF tank wreck done

The Imperial Fists tank wreck is finished. It was quite some fun to paint it and disfigure it afterwards. :D

Tank wreck ready to be painted

I glued the tank wreck on its base and applied sand on the base. Now this terrain piece is ready to be primed and painted. Once this is done, the previously showed dead Imperial Fist will be added.

First ruins painted

I primed the first 3 ruins yesterday evening and finished painting on them just some minutes ago. It took almost as much time to apply color to them as building them. I really thought it would take less time.

Anyway, here are some pics. Unfortunately, one hardly sees the drybrushed highlights on the concrete.

Ruins built

I've spent several hours with cutting und glueing yesterday and today and now I've done with the 5 ruins (my cat also likes them):

Now I only have to find the sheet of balsa wood which must be somewhere here and then I can start boarding up some of the windows. And as soon as I'm back at my apartment I'll add some sand and rubble.

Mortar tower

Done! The tower's finished and I'm quite content with the outcome. The rust effect on the top will dissolve a little bit once the matt varnish is applied.

I think I'm in a terrain building flow

The ideas keep coming to my mind and I'm happily building and realizing them. Here's a preview of my current piece of terrain.

It's a high tower (for whatever purpose) and atop of it a renegade with a mortar took a stand but got killed by a sniper:

Death to all Imperial Fists

Like I said, I plan on doing a tank wreck for my gaming board and it'll of course be a IF Rhino. This morning I painted the tank's former driver:

Czech Hedgehogs

The Czech Hedgehogs are finished:

First terrain pieces finished

I've painted the first terrain pieces for my "Terra Torn Asunder" themed gaming board: 4 of GW's craters
I decorated them with some sand, plastic card, a dead Iron Warrior (poor mate!) and some other stuff.

New gaming table for private purpose only

I already own a gaming table with a good deal of terrain pieces but as I made it available for use on various tournaments of our club so far it is in a rather bad condition. Many people simply don't appreciate the work invested in building and painting good looking terrain and thus treat it badly.

I decided to "donate" the gaming board inclusive the terrain to our club and build a new one for private purpose only, i.e. when I play with friends at my place. It will be the best looking terrain I've built so far and will match my Lost and the Damned and Iron Warriors relating to base design, details and gimmicks.

I guess it's already more than 1.5 years ago when I saw a nice tutorial on the web on how to build Czech hedgehogs. I liked it a lot and therefore built some of my own:

They will be adorned with some barbed wire I make of locking wire:

For the center of the board I plan on building a 3 to 4 stories high bombed tenement block. The ground floor's windows will be boarded up so it serves as a line of sight blocker. Around this I'll build four to five 2-3 stories high buildings. The "streets" and outskrits will be filled by the Czech hedgehogs mentioned above, craters, tank wrecks, piles of rubble and debris, oil barrels etc. I'm really looking forward to this project for my semester break.
